Improved proper name recall in aging after electrical stimulation of the anterior temporal lobes (2011) (pdf)
The task was to look at pictures of famous faces or landmarks and verbally recall the associated proper name. Our results show a numerical improvement in face naming after left or right ATL stimulation, but a statistically significant effect only after left-lateralized stimulation.

Consolidation of Human Motor Cortical Neuroplasticity by D-Cycloserine (2004) (pdf)
While anodal tDCS enhances motor cortical excitability, cathodal tDCS diminishes it. Both effects seem to be NMDA receptor dependent. D-CYC selectively potentiated the duration of motor cortical excitability enhancements induced by anodal tDCS.(Again, way over my head, but NMDA receptors comes up frequently in the context of tDCS and neurotransmitters.)

No offense Danie but if you haven’t done enough research to discover where/how to get a headset, then you probably haven’t done enough to administer tDCS to your wife for conditions related to stroke! I feel for you and can imagine how much you want to help her, I’m just saying that you can anticipate months of research before you’re going to feel like you have an idea about what you’re doing. Realize that little or no tDCS is being used in the treatment of stroke-related conditions. Research is being gathered and hypotheses tested, but as far as I know, no protocols have been developed. If you’re in New Zealand, probably the closest tDCS researchers to you are Colleen Loo & Co. at the Black Dog Institute in Australia. But their focus is on depression. And checking the ClinicalTrials.gov site I only find depression studies going in Australia and nothing in New Zealand.
Danie, especially when it’s possible that tDCS applied incorrectly could make your wife’s symptoms worse (though probably temporarily) I’m just saying I feel it’s important to move slowly and cautiously. That said, I hope you will report back to me your discoveries. Best, John
